CBD galette des rois: recipe and precautions
Par The Phytogrammes team ·
A CBD galette des rois is prepared like a classic galette — puff pastry and almond-cream frangipane — with a CBD oil added off the heat, once the frangipane has cooled below 70 °C. Since 15 May 2026, this type of preparation is no longer sold ready-made in France: it presupposes an oil already in your possession and strictly personal use.

Can you buy a ready-made CBD galette des rois?
No. Since 15 May 2026, the DGAL has been withdrawing from the French market CBD food preparations that lack a Novel Food authorisation. This recipe therefore presupposes a CBD oil already held, to be incorporated into a homemade frangipane, with no commercial intent and no sharing without clearly informing your guests.
The recipe: a classic frangipane, the oil added off the heat
Prepare a classic almond cream by mixing 125 g of softened butter, 125 g of sugar, 125 g of ground almonds and 2 eggs, then optionally add a tablespoon of crème pâtissière for a smoother texture. Spread the cream over a disc of puff pastry, slip in the charm, cover with a second disc, seal the edges and glaze with egg yolk before baking at 180 °C for 30 to 35 minutes. Once the galette has come out of the oven and cooled completely, incorporate the CBD oil by spooning it over each portion at the moment of serving, rather than into the raw almond cream, to protect the molecule from the heat of baking.
The charm: a tradition not to be mixed up with dosing
Keep the tradition of the charm strictly separate from the question of CBD: never dose one portion differently according to who receives it, and always inform all your guests of the presence of CBD before serving, including for the portion containing the charm.
Dosing: markers of caution
In February 2026, EFSA published a provisionally safe daily dose of 0.0275 mg/kg/day, that is around 2 mg for a 70 kg adult (EFSA, 2026). For a galette cut into 8 portions, distribute the oil evenly and favour a low concentration, bearing in mind that this reference dose is quickly exceeded if the oil is strongly dosed. One portion per person, with no repeat the following day, remains the most cautious marker.
The legal framework in 2026
This recipe only makes sense for personal use, from an oil already in your possession: the sale or commercial distribution of CBD desserts has remained prohibited since the Novel Food withdrawal of 15 May 2026. To understand this framework in more detail, see our article on CBD gummies and the Novel Food withdrawal.
Precautions
CBD is not a medicine. Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or for minors. Check the certificate of analysis of the oil used and use only traceable conventional CBD, synthetic cannabinoids having been prohibited in France since 2024.
Frequently asked questions
Why add the CBD oil after baking rather than into the almond cream?
Oven baking goes well beyond 70 °C, a temperature that progressively degrades CBD. Adding it after cooling better preserves the molecule and allows more precise dosing portion by portion.
Can you use any CBD oil for this recipe?
Technically yes, but a neutral-tasting oil goes better with frangipane than a full-spectrum oil, whose vegetal note can come through more strongly when cold.
How long does a CBD galette des rois keep?
Two to three days at room temperature in an airtight container, the puff pastry and the frangipane being the limiting factors for keeping.
Should all guests be informed before serving?
Yes, always, including the person who receives the charm. Never serve a CBD dessert without clearly informing every guest beforehand.
