In plain terms

CP 42,096 is a synthetic cannabinoid of the CP series, studied from the 1980s for its cannabimimetic and analgesic activity. The published data come from an animal study, and no human or safety data was found in the consulted sources. In France it is not named in the narcotics list, and its status under the generic clause covering benzo[c]chromene derivatives remains uncertain.

Receptors and activity

Bar length shows the relative strength of the interaction, as an indication; its colour, the mode of action: pink for an agonist, ink for an antagonist, grey for a modulator.

Pharmacology

CP 42,096 belongs to the CP series of synthetic cannabinoids. The tertiary Wikipedia pointer attributes it to Pfizer in the 1980s. A study by Koe et al., published in 1985, describes it as a cannabimimetic that increases, in mice and in vivo, the binding of [3H]flunitrazepam to the brain, and that shows analgesic activity. No affinity constant for CB1 or CB2 receptors is published in the consulted sources, and no human data was found there. The compound is not named in the French narcotics list; its structure matches the generic clause for benzo[c]chromenes at three of its four substituted positions, but the position 9 hydroxyl is not clearly covered by the definition, so its status remains uncertain.

History

Source
Wholly synthetic molecule. No consulted source describes it in hemp or in any other living organism: it is known only as a laboratory compound, used in pharmacological research on cannabinoid receptors.

Origin

Pharmaceutical research → illicit market

No biosynthetic route: CP 42,096 is produced by no living organism described in the consulted sources. It belongs to synthetic chemistry alone, in the class of hydrogenated benzo[c]chromenes bearing an alkyl ether at position 3.
