Pharmacology
EG-2201 is a synthetic cannabinoid with a carbazole core, from the same subclass as EG-018, bearing a 5-fluoropentyl chain. Schoeder et al. (2018) report an affinity of 22.4 nM at CB1 and 4.36 nM at CB2, and an activation of 94% at CB1 and 77% at CB2 relative to CP55,940. Mogler et al. (2018) describe its in vitro metabolism, marked by oxidative defluorination of the chain, and report only one case of consumption (n = 1) in their urine samples. No clinical study, case series or therapeutic indication is published in the sources consulted.

History
- Source
- Entirely synthetic molecule: no source consulted describes it as a natural product, either in hemp or in any other organism. It has been identified as a constituent of Spice-type herbal blends sold on the illicit market (Schoeder et al., 2018), and its metabolites have been sought in the urine of users (Mogler et al., 2018).
Origin (pharmaceutical research → illicit market)
No biosynthetic pathway: EG-2201 belongs to synthetic chemistry alone, produced by acylation of an N-alkylated carbazole with a naphthoyl group. No source consulted describes its presence in a living organism.
Legal framework
- European Union
No harmonised control measure at European Union level was identified in the sources consulted: control currently falls under the national legislation of member states. EG-2201 is also not listed in the INCB Green List 2026, which reproduces the substances of the 1971 conventions.
- France
EG-2201 is not named in the consolidated list of substances classified as narcotics, updated 16 February 2026. Its pentyl analogue, EG-018, is named instead in annex IV, under the order of 31 March 2017. Its structure does not meet the conditions of the generic families: the indol-3-yl methanone and indazol-3-yl methanone families require a carbonyl group carried by position 3 of an indole or indazole ring, whereas here the carbonyl is carried by the lateral benzene ring of the carbazole. The naphthoylpyrrole and naphthylmethylindole families do not apply either. The molecule is therefore not, at the date of this list, classified as a narcotic in France.
