How to make a CBD space cake: the homemade recipe

Allow 200 g of flour, 150 g of sugar, 3 eggs, 100 g of melted butter, a sachet of baking powder, a pinch of salt, and optionally 50 g of cocoa or the zest of a lemon depending on the version chosen. Plan a quantity of CBD oil adjusted to the concentration of the bottle and the number of portions intended.

Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir in the beaten eggs, then the melted butter once it has cooled slightly, working the batter until you obtain a smooth, even texture. Add the cocoa or the zest if you wish, depending on the version. Pour into a buttered tin and bake for 25 to 30 minutes at 160 °C, until a blade comes out clean.

Leave the cake to cool out of the oven until it drops below 70 °C: that is the threshold above which CBD begins to degrade significantly. Two options are then open to you: soak the still-warm cake with a light syrup mixed with the CBD oil, or prepare a CBD icing to spread once the cake is completely cold. The second option allows more precise control of the dose, portion by portion, as with other homemade CBD recipes.

On 9 February 2026 the EFSA published a provisional safe daily dose of 0.0275 mg of CBD per kilogram of body weight, or around 2 mg per day for a 70 kg adult. Most commercial oils go well beyond that threshold in their suggested serving. Spread the total quantity of oil used across all the portions cut, note the approximate dose per portion, and always start with the smallest serving before adjusting, as recommended for any intake of CBD.

Keep the cake in an airtight container, out of reach of anyone not informed of its composition, especially children. Always label the container: the visual resemblance to an ordinary cake remains the main risk of confusion at a shared meal.

CBD food products fall under European novel food status. Since 15 May 2026, the DGAL has been withdrawing from the market ingested products that lack Novel Food authorisation. A homemade preparation, for strictly personal use from an oil you already hold, remains the only option consistent with that framework.

Do not consume before driving: a full-spectrum product may cause you to fail a saliva test for THC. This recipe is not advised for pregnant or breastfeeding women, for minors, or for people on medical treatment without prior advice, because of possible interactions with certain liver enzymes.

Can you buy a ready-made CBD space cake in France?

No, with rare exceptions: ingested CBD food products have been withdrawn from the market since May 2026, for want of Novel Food authorisation.

How do you avoid over-dosing a portion?

Work out the total quantity of oil added, divide it by the number of portions cut, and note the result for each portion before serving.

Why add the CBD after baking rather than into the batter?

Baking exposes the batter to high temperatures for a prolonged period, which degrades CBD. Adding it at the end of preparation better preserves its integrity.
