Pharmacology

CUMYL-PICA is an agonist at the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, of the cumyl indole-3-carboxamide family. It binds with a higher affinity to CB1 (Ki of 59.2 nM) than to CB2 (Ki of 136.3 nM), and it activates CB1 at nanomolar concentrations (Gamage et al., 2018). In rats, it causes hypothermia and bradycardia (Longworth et al., 2017; Kevin et al., 2017). The sources consulted report no controlled clinical study and no controlled pharmacokinetic study in humans; they are preclinical or analytical.

History

Source
An entirely synthetic molecule, absent from cannabis. It is one of the synthetic cannabinoids found in products used recreationally; it was first detected in European products in 2014 (Kevin et al., 2017).

Origin (pharmaceutical research → illicit market)

No known biosynthetic pathway: a synthetic molecule, obtained exclusively by chemical synthesis within the cumyl indole carboxamide family.
