In plain terms
Cannabidiphorol is a long-chain CBD, isolated in 2019 at the same time as THCP. It is often presented as an enhanced CBD, but the available measurements show a profile very close to that of ordinary cannabidiol.

Pharmacology
Cannabidiphorol (CBDP) is the heptyl-chain homologue of cannabidiol, isolated in 2019 by the team of Citti and Cannazza in the medical cannabis variety FM2, at the same time as Δ9-THCP, and identified unambiguously by comparison with its synthetic homologue. Contrary to the received idea that lengthening the side chain increases potency, in vitro measurements give CBDP a receptor profile very close to that of cannabidiol: a weak antagonist of CB2, its main cannabinoid target, it even proves slightly less potent there than CBD. Work published in 2026 has clarified its central mechanism: CBDP is a negative allosteric modulator of the CB1 receptor acting at two distinct sites, the classic ORG27569 site and an intracellular site between transmembrane helices 1, 2, 6, 7 and helix 8. In mice, its co-administration with Δ9-THC modestly modulates cognitive performance without abolishing the antinociceptive effect of THC. No human data have been published, although the compound is marketed in North America.

Biosynthetic pathway
Biosynthetic pathway: CBDP belongs to the heptyl series of cannabinoids, in which the polyketide precursor bears seven carbons instead of the five of olivetolic acid. Prenylation and then cyclisation by CBDA synthase lead to the corresponding acid, whose decarboxylation releases CBDP. Its natural occurrence is very minor, but the compound is today marketed in North America.
Legal framework
France
CBDP is not listed by name on the French narcotics list. A homologue of cannabidiol, it does not share the benzo[c]chromene core of the THC-type derivatives covered by the generic clause of the ANSM Decision of 22 May 2024. Its presence in an extract falls under the framework applicable to hemp.
European Union
Not listed in the European Union narcotics schedules. Concentrated preparations intended for food use fall under regulation (EU) 2015/2283 on novel foods (Novel Food).

Structural classification
- Class
- Major phytocannabinoid
- Origin
- Cannabis sativa L.: isolated from the Italian medical cannabis variety FM2.
- Status
- Unscheduled
Toxicology and risks
Detection and analysis
