Pharmacology
JWH-030, or naphthalen-1-yl-(1-pentylpyrrol-3-yl)methanone, is a synthetic cannabinoid of the JWH series belonging to the naphthoylpyrroles. It is the pyrrole analogue of JWH-018, whose indole ring is replaced by a pyrrole. On the mouse vas deferens, it inhibits electrically evoked contractions with an IC50 of 3.38 nM, placing it close to JWH-007 (2.56 nM), and its effect is antagonized by SR141716A (Pertwee et al., 1995). The available safety data remain preliminary: it prolongs the QT interval in rats and blocks the hERG channel with an IC50 of 88.36 µM (Yun et al., 2016). No clinical human data are published in the sources consulted.

History
- Source
- Synthetic molecule, described as such in the sources consulted. It has been detected in illicit products in Japan, where it is one of a dozen synthetic cannabinoids reported as newly distributed designer drugs (Uchiyama et al., 2013).
Origin (pharmaceutical research → illicit market)
No biosynthetic pathway: JWH-030 is produced by no living organism and belongs to no hemp chemotype. It belongs to synthetic chemistry alone: a pyrrole carries on its nitrogen a pentyl chain and, at position 3, a carbonyl group linking it to a naphthalene ring.
Legal framework
- European Union
No harmonized control measure at European Union level is documented for this molecule in the sources consulted: control therefore rests with the member states. The INCB Green List 2026, which lists the psychotropic substances of the 1971 Convention, does not mention JWH-030.
- France
A substance classified as a narcotic in France and named explicitly. JWH-030 appears in annex IV of the consolidated list of narcotics (ANSM, updated 16 February 2026, based on the amended order of 22 February 1990), in the naphthoylpyrrole block, where it is named among the examples. The generic definition of that family (pyrrole nitrogen carrying an alkyl group, carbonyl linked at position 3 to a naphthyl) also covers its structure.
