Semi-synthetic cannabinoid

Narcotic: generic clause

THC-JDTetrahydrocannabioctyl (Δ9-THC-JD)

(6aR,10aR)-6,6,9-trimethyl-3-octyl-6a,7,8,10a-tetrahydrobenzo[c]chromen-1-ol

Aliases.THCjd · Δ9-THC-JD · Δ9-THC-C8 · THC-octyl · tétrahydrocannabioctyl

The octyl (C8) homologue of THC. Uncharacterised; "THC-JD" products prove to consist mainly of delta-8 (Munger 2026).

In plain terms

THC-JD is a "lengthened" THC: its side chain has eight carbons instead of five. Sold as a very potent cannabinoid, it has been the subject of virtually no study. Analyses of "THC-JD" products found, moreover, no trace of the advertised molecule, but mainly delta-8. Caution.

Pharmacology

THC-JD (tetrahydrocannabioctyl, Δ9-THC-C8) is the octyl-chain homologue of Δ9-THC: eight carbons on the side chain instead of five, on the same benzo[c]chromene skeleton (PubChem CID 155318984). Marketed since 2022 as an "ultra-potent" cannabinoid: the claim of "19× THC" is marketing and is supported by no published pharmacological data; no CB1/CB2 affinity constant exists for this compound. An analysis of five vapes labelled "THC-JD" (Munger et al., Cannabis 2026) detected no THC-JD: the major compound was in fact delta-8-THC in four samples out of five, illustrating the risk of mislabelling. In France, it is captured by the generic benzo[c]chromene clause of the ANSM Decision of 22 May 2024.

Route of preparation (chemical process)

The octyl-chain (C8) homologue of Δ9-THC, obtained by a semi-synthetic route: the pentyl (C5) chain of the benzo[c]chromene skeleton is replaced by an eight-carbon alkyl chain. It is not described as occurring naturally in hemp.

Structural classification

Class
Semi-synthetic cannabinoid
Origin
Semi-synthesis (chain homologation of THC)
Status
Narcotic: generic clause

Toxicology and risks

Detection and analysis
