CBD flan pâtissier: recipe, buying and effects

Par ·

CBD flan pâtissier is a creamy vanilla dessert into which a CBD oil is folded off the heat, for strictly personal use. Since 15 May 2026, the DGAL has been withdrawing CBD desserts and oils sold in shops from the French market, in application of the Novel Food regulation. What remains is the homemade version, using an oil already in your possession and a carefully considered dose.

CBD flan pâtissier: recipe, buying and effects

Can you still buy a CBD flan pâtissier in France?

No, not as a ready-to-eat dessert. Since 15 May 2026, the DGAL has been withdrawing every CBD food preparation from the market, ingestible oils included, for want of European authorisation under regulation (EU) 2015/2283 (Newsweed summary).

This recipe therefore assumes you already have a CBD oil, bought before the withdrawal or intended for another personal use. It is neither commercial nor meant to be served without clearly informing your guests. The detail of this withdrawal is explained in our article on CBD gummies and the 2026 regulatory framework.

The recipe: a saucepan flan, with no time in the oven

Unlike the traditional flan pâtissier baked in the oven, this version is prepared entirely in a saucepan. Gentle cooking preserves the creamy texture and avoids exposing the CBD to excessive heat, which degrades it above 70 °C.

Ingredients for 6 servings

  • 750 ml whole milk
  • 3 whole eggs + 2 yolks
  • 100 g sugar
  • 60 g cornflour
  • 1 vanilla pod, split
  • CBD oil, in a quantity adjusted to your personal use

Method

  1. Heat the milk with the scraped vanilla pod, without letting it boil.
  2. Whisk the eggs, yolks and sugar until pale, then fold in the cornflour.
  3. Pour the hot milk over the mixture while whisking, then return everything to the saucepan.
  4. Thicken over a low heat, stirring constantly, until the cream coats the back of a spoon.
  5. Off the heat, once the mixture has dropped below 70 °C, fold in the CBD oil.
  6. Pour into a mould, leave to cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours before turning out.

Dosage: caution above all

The EFSA published on 9 February 2026 a provisionally safe daily dose of 0.0275 mg/kg/day, or roughly 2 mg for a 70 kg adult (EFSA, 2026). A flan for 6 servings made with 3 ml of 5% oil (150 mg of CBD in total) already exceeds that benchmark by a wide margin per portion.

For reasonable personal use: favour a lightly dosed oil, limit yourself to one serving a day, and do not repeat the exposure over several consecutive days without giving it some thought.

What does user feedback say?

Qualitative feedback from home cooks is mainly about taste. A full-spectrum oil leaves a vegetal, slightly earthy note beneath the vanilla, most noticeable when cold. A CBD isolate stays more neutral on the palate and pairs better with a dessert as delicate as this one.

The main adjustment reported by people who try this recipe concerns the temperature at which the oil is folded in: too hot, and it visibly separates on the surface; at the right temperature, it blends in without leaving a greasy film.

Precautions

  • CBD is not a medicine. If stress or sleep disturbances persist, consult a healthcare professional.
  • Use is not advised for pregnant or breastfeeding women, nor for minors.
  • Always check the certificate of analysis of the oil you use.
  • Synthetic cannabinoids (HHC, H4CBD, THCP) have been banned in France since 2024: use only a classic, traceable CBD oil.

Frequently asked questions

Can you infuse a CBD flower directly into the milk?

Technically yes, but the dose becomes hard to control without prior decarboxylation or a precise measure of the resulting content. A dosed oil remains the more predictable option for a homemade recipe.

Does the flan keep its CBD after cooking in a saucepan?

Largely so, if the oil is added off the heat below 70 °C as indicated in the recipe. Prolonged or overly hot cooking gradually degrades the molecule.

How long does a CBD flan pâtissier keep?

Two to three days in the refrigerator, in a covered container. The milk and eggs are the limiting factors for storage, independently of the CBD.

Where can you find a good-quality CBD oil for cooking?

Choose an oil with a recent certificate of analysis, a compliant THC level and a clear dose in mg per ml. Our guide to choosing a full-spectrum CBD oil sets out the criteria to check.
