Full melt
Full melt describes hash that melts entirely with heat, leaving no plant residue — the purest grade of mechanical separation, typically from the 73u-90u fractions.
The scale comes from American extractors: hash is rated from one to six stars by how it behaves under heat. At six stars it bubbles and melts like an oil — full melt — proof that the fraction contains almost nothing but trichome heads. Lower grades, which leave ash or residue, betray the presence of plant matter.
Full melt is not a method but a verdict: it is reached by very careful dry sieving or, more commonly, by ice-water separation on narrow meshes (73u-90u). It is the raw material piattella demands, and the benchmark premium hash is measured against.
The grade speaks to mechanical purity, not chemical composition: a full melt can be THC-dominant (illegal in France) just as easily as CBD-dominant. The line that matters on the legal market remains the Δ⁹-THC below 0.30% on the certificate of analysis.
