Amnesia Haze CBD: what the name says, what the lot says

Haze refers to a family of sativa-dominant cultivars that grew out of Californian hybrids of the 1970s and were later stabilised by Dutch seed companies. These plants are tall and slender, with a long flowering period. Amnesia Haze is the best-known member of the line: seed-company listings credit it to Soma Seeds, with a stated flowering time of 12 weeks.

Its pedigree is disputed. One version describes a blend of varieties from Afghanistan, Hawaii, Laos and Jamaica, with no named Haze. Another calls it a selection of Super Silver Haze. Neither rests on a published genetic analysis. Our article on the Haze family of varieties traces the whole line.

The original Amnesia Haze plants are THC-rich cannabis. The version sold in France is hemp that keeps the name and, at best, part of the aroma profile.

Three studies published between 2019 and 2022 compared trade names with the actual make-up of the plants. All three looked at THC-rich cannabis, but their conclusion applies to any label.

• Genetics. Anna Schwabe and Mitchell McGlaughlin genotyped 122 samples from 30 varieties bought in three US states (Journal of Cannabis Research, 2019). Only four varieties gave the same genetic profile across all their samples. Every other variety had at least one outlier.
• Sativa or indica. A Canadian and Dutch team analysed more than 100 samples across more than 100,000 genetic markers (Nature Plants, 2021). Samples labelled sativa and indica could not be told apart at the genome level. The label mostly tracked a handful of terpenes.
• Chemistry. An analysis of commercial samples from six states found that trade names do not consistently match the measured chemical profiles (PLOS One, 2022).

French law ignores trade names anyway. It only recognises varieties listed in the official catalogue, which carry agricultural names such as Futura 75 or Santhica 27. "Amnesia Haze" has no regulatory meaning, as our article on the European catalogue of hemp varieties explains.

Only one document describes the flower you buy: the analysis of the lot. The Amnesia Haze CBD product page shows the following profile, measured by liquid chromatography (HPLC) on lot PG-26-A32B.

The plant makes its cannabinoids in acid form. When heated, CBDA loses a carboxyl group and about 12% of its mass, so it counts as 0.877 × CBDA. The sum gives 11.7 + 0.877 × 1.4 ≈ 12.9% CBD available after heating.

A flower's smell comes from its terpenes, volatile compounds made in the same glands as the cannabinoids. More than 200 have been reported in the plant, according to Ethan Russo's 2011 review in the British Journal of Pharmacology. They usually make up less than 1% of the flower.

The product page describes this lot as peppery and dry, led by α-pinene and β-caryophyllene. It is grown in open fields. Another grower, or another harvest, may give a more lemony Amnesia Haze: according to the 2021 study, trade labels vary precisely on a few terpenes. The name changes nothing in law. The decree of 30 December 2021 only allows varieties of Cannabis sativa L. listed in the common catalogue whose Δ⁹-THC content is not above 0.30%. On 29 December 2022, the Conseil d'État annulled the ban on selling raw flowers and leaves that the same decree contained. Our article on the legal THC level explains the threshold.

Two further limits apply. The ANSM listed HHC and two derivatives as narcotics from 13 June 2023, then H4CBD, THCP and other molecules from 3 June 2024: a flower containing them is illegal, whatever its name. And a flower presented as a food leaves the hemp framework. On 20 May 2026 the Ministry of Agriculture stated that foods containing CBD must be withdrawn from the market. Only seeds and leaves meant for water infusion are exempt, not the flowering tops.

Price per gram does not tell the whole story, since the three Haze flowers in the catalogue do not have the same potency. Per 100 mg of CBD, the ranking changes.

Amnesia Haze is the most expensive per gram, yet it costs less than Lemon Haze per milligram of CBD. Prices as displayed on 23 September 2026; the quantity bought matters more than the variety. The other products are in the CBD flowers category.
