CBD flower or resin: 4 differences noted on two batches

Glandular trichomes grow mainly on the female flowers of hemp. According to a 2020 study in Scientific Reports, cannabinoids and terpenes are produced and stored in the secretory cells of these glands, which are especially dense on the tops of seedless female flowers. The heads are tiny. Measurements published in 2023 in the Journal of Cannabis Research put capitate-stalked trichome heads at 40 to 110 microns across.

A flower contains those heads plus everything around them: bracts, small leaves and fine stems. A resin gathers the detached heads, with more or less plant debris. Made from the same plant, it therefore has a higher cannabinoid content, as the two batches compared here show:

The flower's CBDA needs a quick calculation. Heat turns it into CBD and removes about 12% of its mass in the process. The flower's total potential comes to 9.6 + 0.877 × 1.2, about 10.7% CBD, which remains well below the 15.0% of the resin.

The rest of the range follows the same pattern. The CBD flowers page lists Fruit Cake at 11.6%, Blood Orange at 11.5% and Amnesia Haze at 11.7%. On the CBD resins and hash page, the 120u shows 15.9%, the Drysift 90u 15.1%, the 3x filtered hash 14.9% and the Bubble 16.3%. There are exceptions: some resins in the range are CBG-dominant and show only 3.1 to 4.2% CBD. A flower is a dried bud whose density depends on the variety and the growing method. It crumbles between your fingers and responds to the humidity of the air. According to its page, Super Boof was grown in a cold greenhouse with passive ventilation.

A resin's texture depends on how the trichomes were separated:

The Frozen Hash compared here is separated cold from frozen plant material and pressed by hand, without solvent. Each word in such names is explained in our comparison of frozen, piatella, 120u and static.

Resin comes from the flower, so both carry the same terpenes: myrcene, β-caryophyllene, limonene, humulene, α-pinene and linalool. What differs is how much of them the process preserves.

Part of the volatile terpenes is lost during drying. In a 2021 study published in Industrial Crops and Products, CBD hemp was dried under different conditions: ambient-air drying retained 82.1% of the terpenes, drying at 90 °C only 29.9%, and 83.8 to 98.6% of the total CBD remained. A frozen hash avoids drying the plant before separation, which accounts for its aromatic reputation. A dry sift is made from flowers that have already been dried.

The product pages describe Super Boof as fruity and soft with a background of humulene, and Frozen Hash as woody and resinous with a marked β-caryophyllene note. Our article on hemp terpenes describes these molecules.

Both products are sold by the gram at tiered prices. These were the prices displayed on 23 September 2026:

At every tier, a gram of resin costs a little more than a gram of flower. The gap shrinks with quantity, from €1 at the 2 g tier to 9 cents at the 100 g tier.

Dividing by the content stated in the reference profile reverses the picture. At the 100 g tier, a gram of CBD costs 2.05 ÷ 0.096 = €21.4 in flower and 2.14 ÷ 0.150 = €14.3 in resin. At the 2 g tier the figures are €82.8 and €59.7. Depending on the tier, a gram of cannabidiol costs 21 to 33% less in resin.

The calculation is valid for these two batches only. A batch with a different content gives a different result, so redo the division with the figure on the product page. What drives the price of a resin is explained in our article on the price of CBD hash.

French law makes no distinction between the two formats. The order of 30 December 2021 limits the sector to Cannabis sativa L. varieties with no more than 0.30% Δ⁹-THC and applies the same limit to hemp extracts and the products containing them. The Conseil d'État struck down on 29 December 2022 (no. 444887) the ban on selling raw flowers and leaves. The texts that apply to resin are covered in our article is CBD hash legal in France.

Two restrictions cover both formats: they may be sold to adults only, and neither counts as a food. As the French Ministry of Agriculture restated on 20 May 2026, foods containing CBD are not authorised.

You can decide with three questions, none of which relies on a promised effect:

1. If you want the character of a variety, flower keeps its structure and the nuances of how it was grown (indoor, greenhouse, open field). A resin mixes the trichomes together and loses part of that.
2. If you are comparing what the cannabinoid costs, divide the price per gram by the CBD content. On the batches in this article, the resin comes out ahead at every tier.
3. Think about how you will use it. Ground flower heats evenly in a vaporiser, while a denser resin sticks to the screen and needs another setting. Our guide to vaporisation temperatures gives the published ranges.

Whichever you choose, check the same things before you buy: an authorised variety, a batch number, and the CBD and Δ⁹-THC measured on that batch.
