CBD pollen: what it really is, how to store it and how to tell it apart from hash
Par The Phytogrammes team ·
CBD pollen has nothing to do with bee pollen. It is sifted trichomes — the fine resin powder detached from hemp flowers, rich in cannabinoids and terpenes. It becomes hash once pressed. More concentrated than a flower, with stated levels of 4 to 32%, it remains legal in France as a non-food product below 0.3% THC. Here is the clarification, terminology included.

A confusion to clear up straight away
The word "pollen" is misleading. This is not bee pollen, nor any product of the hive. In the hemp world, CBD pollen means kief, or dry sift: the fine powder of the trichomes, those resinous glands that cover the flower, separated by sieving.
The distinction matters, because it avoids two slippages: confusing it with a beekeeping product, and presenting it as a "superfood". It is neither. It is a trichome concentrate, full stop.
Pollen, kief, hash: the same material, a different treatment
The distinction between pollen and hash lies in the processing, not the substance. Pollen is loose, unpressed sift. Hash is that same trichome sift pressed and heated into a compact block. You start from the same material; you transform it differently.
Understanding this chain — trichome, then sifted pollen, then pressed hash — helps decode the often vague labels on the market. Our articles on homemade CBD hash and on drying hashish and extracts set out these stages.
CBD levels and prices
Because it concentrates the trichomes, pollen is richer per gram than a flower. French products state levels ranging from around 4% to 32%, depending on the raw material and the sifting. These figures are announced by sellers and deserve, as always, a certificate of analysis to be verified.
On price, pollen starts at around 8 euros a gram and rises with the CBD content. Here too, an abnormally low price for a high level should prompt caution rather than enthusiasm.
How to store CBD pollen
Storage determines quality over time. Pollen keeps in an airtight, opaque container, ideally glass, away from direct light and at a stable temperature, around 15 to 20 °C. In these conditions, aromas and cannabinoids are preserved for about six months after opening.
Light, heat and air are the three enemies of terpenes. Badly stored pollen loses its fragrance and degrades, whatever its starting level.
The 2026 legal position: watch out for food use
CBD pollen is legal in France as a non-food product, below 0.3% THC, within the framework set by the Conseil d'État on 29 December 2022 and the threshold in the decree of 30 December 2021.
One 2026 nuance deserves attention. Since 15 May 2026, CBD products intended to be ingested have been withdrawn from the French market under the Novel Food Regulation. Sold as a raw non-food product, pollen remains legal; but incorporating it into a drink or a food is precisely the use now covered by that regulation. We therefore present pollen within its non-food framework, without making it a cooking ingredient. Our resins, hash and pollen are laboratory-analysed.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is CBD pollen?
It is sifted trichomes, also called kief: the fine resin powder detached from hemp flowers by sieving, rich in cannabinoids and terpenes. Despite its name, it has nothing to do with bee pollen or any product of the hive.
What is the difference between CBD pollen and CBD resin?
The difference lies in the processing, not the substance. Pollen is loose, unpressed trichome sift. Hash, or resin, is that same sift pressed and heated into a compact block. Both start from the same raw material.
Is CBD pollen legal in France?
Yes, as a non-food product below 0.3% THC, within the 2022 Conseil d'État framework. Incorporating it into a food or a drink, on the other hand, falls under the food use covered by the Novel Food Regulation, applied strictly since 15 May 2026.
How should CBD pollen be stored?
In an airtight, opaque container, ideally glass, away from light and at a stable temperature, around 15 to 20 °C. Stored this way, it keeps its aromas and cannabinoids for about six months after opening. Light, heat and air are its main enemies.
